Gallery Statement 2010

 Catherine Sutcliffe-Fuller was born in 1970, York. She studied at York College of Art and Design, followed by the University of Brighton where she specialised in Fine Art Printmaking.  She lives and works as an artist in York.

 Graduating in 1994 she set up her own print studio to work full-time as a professional artist printmaker and tutor, specialising in etching and relief printing.

She has completed commissions for Portakabin Plc, been artist in residence at St.Peters School, York and has had her work represented by The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art who have sold her prints to the banking sectors in London.

Growing up on a smallholding in a small village on the outskirts of York, surrounded by woodland, home grown vegetables and farm stock, she fell in love with nature and nurture.

Her work depicts how nature ‘tolerates’ the activities of stewardship and about people who have contact with nature.

Catherine hopes to capture an outlook and mood in her work that shows the working landscape devoted to management and maintenance. For this she has been awarded by DEFRA a prize for ‘best-picture’ depicting sustainability.

Links with the environment/countryside continue to run in her family. Her twin sister is a horticulturist and brother a stonemason. Working together/alongside each other they combine their skills to find ways of preserving and recording a changing lifestyle.

Since 1993 Catherine has been exhibiting and selling work throughout the country and her work can be found in both galleries and private collections.
