Ian Turnock

My sculpture is inspired by pattern and structure in nature focusing on silhouettes, shadows and movement of leaf, branch, light and flame and explores repetition, balance and symmetry. One of my main sources of inspiration are the patterns formed by tree branches and leaves silhouetted against the sky at different times of year.

My background in graphic design influences my exploration of form and line. Drawings and photographs are the starting point from which I develop organic, abstract and figurative sculpture. I create intricate and detailed drawings from which the final artwork is digitally cut into stainless steel, aluminium, copper, reclaimed steel and plywood, transforming the drawn line into a tangible object.
